Trees for Community Storytelling, Remembrance & Witnessing - In this presentation, Dr Jenna C. Ashton reflects on the presence and relevance of trees in her work spanning feminist social practice arts, heritage, and ecological and social justice. Trees appear as active participants, points of connection, witnesses, sites of activism and folklore, as valued members of communities. Trees are frequently incorporated into Western language of natural capital or nature based solutions. However, Ashton argues that trees hold a powerful cultural potency for inspiring urban environmental action, which could be further explored at community level. This event hoped to stimulate conversations between research communities at The University of Manchester working on research related to forestry, woodland, urban and other treescapes to inform and support future collaborative working. This event was hosted by Manchester Environmental Research Institute on the 23 September 2020
